The show has seen many changes over the years since it first appeared in 1925 emerging from what was called the Christow Revels to become what it is today. Then, the main participants in the agricultural and horticultural classes were the farmers from the nine local farms which still existed.

Over the years, whatever the changes, one thing remains a constant factor. As we all know the success of any outdoor activity is reliant on some good weather! In 2016 the lead up to the show was not too bad and we had high hopes of a good attendance. However in the few days before the show the weather forecasters chose to predict gloom doom and storm and tempest, almost advising us to stay at home because of the awful weather. This of course did the show’s attendance figures no good at all but those folk who did come were treated to very pleasant warm summer’s day.

The usual events were on display for 2016, the horse events, parade of tractors and cars, horse and hound relay, sheaf pitching, cross country race, children’s sports, carriage driving, terrier racing plus the Gamechanger gun dog display team.

Obviously with numbers through the gate being much lower our gate income was very much lower, and of course expenses keep on rising. However we managed a small donation to the President’s charity which this year was Shelterbox.

Plans for 2017 are well under way with something to please everyone. We have Dartmoor Archery, Emma’s Donkeys, the Cross Country Run, the Dart Vale and Haldon Harriers, the farrier Stuart Taylor and by popular demand the Vikings are back! As well as the usual local attractions and trade stands the Pony Clubs of the area will compete in Pony Club Games.

May I take this opportunity to thank our hard working committee who year after year battle on to cope with ever increasing expenses and mountains of more and more red tape in order to keep someone, somewhere happy but feel passionately that we must keep your show ready and available every third Saturday in August.
